Inauguration of Technical Assistance under IESCP in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli

The Centre for Social exclusion and inclusion Policy under Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli held an Inaugural event on the 5th March 2010. The Centre is receiving technical assistance under the India-EU Study Centres Programme. Vice Chancellor of the University, faculty members attended the event during the visit of the team Leader of the India-EU Study Centres Programme, Mr. Ulrich Podewils.

 

 


International Colloquium on European Convention on Human Rights - Lessons from Experiences, Pondicherry University

An "International Colloquium on European Convention on Human Rights - Lessons from Experiences", was held at Pondicherry University  from 1st to 3rd March 2010 and was attended by Faculty of Law at University of Paris 13 Pierre Yves Monjal, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University J.A.K. Tareen and Team Leader of the India EU Study Centres Programme Ulrich Podewils besides others.

 

CII-AIU : Global Summit on Higher Education

Global Summit on Higher Education, was organised by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on the 16th and 17th of February 2010 at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. More than 40 Vice Chancellors, Directors, Policy makers and stakeholders from various Universities / Institutions from different parts of the country took part in the Summit. Industry was  represented by Microsoft, IBM, Intel, CISCO, PwC, E&Y, Mindlogicx, NIIT and many others. Foreign Universities e.g., Cardiff University, UK, Melbourne University, Queensland University of Technology, University of New South Wales had also participated in the Summit.

Mr. Kapila Sibal, Honorable Minister for Education, Government of India had delivered his special Key Note speech on the 16th February 2010.

 Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader of the India-EU Study Centres programme has participated as one of the panelist in the session titled " India- the knowledge destination: the way forward and shared his views on the subject.


Inauguration of  "Contemporary India Study Centre" at Aarhus University, Denmark

Aarhus University, Denmark (Department of History and Area Studies) inaugurated the "Contemporary India Study Centre Aarhus (CISCA)" on the 12th February 2010 at the University Campus. The Inauguration Ceremony was attended by Mr.Martin Alstrom, Head of Information, Delegation of the European Union to Denmark; HE  Yogesh Kumar Gupta, Ambassador of India in Denmark and Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader, IESCP besides the Academia for the University.

The opening of the CISCA was combined with the first Indo-European Annual Lecture presented by the Indian Ambassador to Denmark. The University Director described the changes of Aarhus University and the role which CISCA is expected to play as part of the reorganisation. The Indian community of Aarhus and representatives of the corporate sector were invited and present.

The University Director Jœrgen Jœrgensen explained the university's vision to become one of the leading world players among the research universities.


Inauguration of the European Studies Programme at Delhi University

Delhi University inaugurated the "European Studies Programme" on the 28th January 2010. The Inauguration was held between 1000 and 1100 hrs on the 28th January 2010 at the 'Old Viceregal Lodge'  at the University Campus. The Inauguration ceremony was chaired by Professor. Rajni Palriwala, Coordinator for the European Studies Programme and attended by Prof. S.K. Tandon, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Retd.) Andre Beteille, Prof. (Retd.) J.P.S. Uberoi, and number of luminaries from Indian and European Universities. There were about 100 participants who had gathered to witness the inauguration.

Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation in India: Ms. Daniele Smadja,  Mr. Hans Schoof, Head of Operations, Mr. Fernando Nino Page, Head of Economics section, Ms. Francesca Pessina, Programme Manager (IESCP) and Ms. Sarojini Kaul, Project Manager from the EU Delegation in India attended the Inauguration.

 

The Inauguration was  followed by workshop with several sessions until 30th January 2010.

Inauguration of the Contemporary India Study Center at Warsaw University, Poland

University of Warsaw inaugurated its Contemporary India Study Center at the University Campus on the 28 January 2010. The inauguration was under the patronage of the polish Ministries for Economy, Education and Foreign Affairs. On the Dias were  Prof Lengauer, Deputy Rector; Prof Jerzy Szwed, Secretary Ministry of Education; Dr Pawel Wojciechowski, Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms Marie-Therese Duffy-Haeusler, Director EC Information Office Warsaw; Mr Rajesh Vaishnaw, Charge D'Affairs, Indian Embassy and Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader, India-EU Study Centres Programme.


Prof Edward Halizak, Director of the Institute International Relations gave an introduction. This was continued by words of the guests sitting on the dias, and a presentation by Dr Jakub Zajaczkowski. At the end members of the consortium delivered short messages as well, Prof Sarangi for University of Hyderabad, Dr Ben Slay for the United Nations Development Programme, and Prof Luciano Segreto, University of Florence.

ERASMUS MUNDUS INFO DAY

The Erasmus Mundus Info Day on 22 January provided more information on the Call. It explained the application process and documents, and give tips and advice on how to prepare a strong proposal under all three of the Actions. The Info Day took place in Brussels, and was broadcast live via web streaming. Participants at the event, and people following the sessions on line were able to post questions. A partner search mechanism was also made available.

Inauguration of the EU Study Centre at IIT, Madras

IIT Madras inaugurated it's newly established "Centre for Comparative EU Studies" on the 20th January 2010 at the IIT Campus. The Inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Fernando Nino Page, Head of Economic Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union in India; Prof. V. G. Joint workshop of IESCP for the existing and New Study Centres

India-EU Study Centres Programme  organized its first combined workshop for the existing Study centres [selected to receive Technical Assistance] and the new Study Centres [selected by the EC delegation in India for receipt of grants] on the 20th and 21st January 2009 at the IIT Madras campus, in continuation of the Inauguration of the EU Study Centre of IIT Chennai.
The workshop was attended by the representatives of all the selected study centres besides the Senior Officials of the Delegation of the European Union in India (Mr. Fernando Nino Page, Head of Economic Cooperation and Ms. Sarojini Kaul, Project Manager) and the Technical Assistance Team of IESCP.

Inauguration of the Contemporary India Study Centre at Warsaw University, Poland

The Embassy of the Republic of Poland, in collaboration with the Institute of International Relations of the University of Warsaw, United Nations Development Programme and India-EU Study Centres Programme, held an inauguration ceremony of the Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies.

The inauguration ceremony was held on January 14, 2010 at the residence of the Ambassador of Poland to India in New Delhi and was attended by the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union in India, Ms. Daniele Smadja,  Ambassadors of the Polish and Spanish Embassies and invited delegates from the partner Universities, Academia and Business Associations.
The second stage of the Inauguration was held at the Warsaw University on the 28th January 2010.

Inauguration of the European Union Study Centre  by Symbiosis Centre for International Education
Symbiosis Centre for International Education under the aegis of Symbiosis International University inaugurated an European Union Study Centre at Pune on Sunday 10th January 2010. Dr M. Veerappa Moily , Honorable Minister for Law and Justice, Government of India was the Chief Guest. Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader India-Europe Study Centres Programme, and Advocate Mr. Ram Jethmalani,  Former Minister for Law & Justice, Government of India were the Guests  Honor. Dr. S. B Mujumdar President Symbiosis, Chancellor, Symbiosis International University presided over the function.

Connections and Dialogue: The European Union and the Asia Pacific Perspectives, Perceptions and Policies

A Conference on the above topic was held by the "European Union Studies Association - Asia Pacific Centre for European Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University in the Conference Room no. 203, School of International Studies,  JNU Campus, New Delhi on the 8th and 9th January 2010.


Inauguration of "Manipal Centre for European Studies" at Manipal University in Karnataka, India

Manipal University inaugurated the newly established EU Study Centre on 17th December at the University Campus. The function was attended by Mr. Fernando Nino Page, Head of Economics Cooperation Section; Ms. Sarojini Kaul from the Delegation of the European Union in India and Mr. Ulrich Podewils, Team Leader, IESCP; Mr. Alexius Collette, CEO, Phillips Innovation Campus, Bangalore; Dr. HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Manipal University besides the university officials.

Inaguration of EU Study Centre at SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai

Reutlingen University (FH / Hochschule Reutlingen), ESB Business School in partnership with SPJain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai, India and in association with Knowledge Foundation, Germany was recently selected for establishing an EU study centre in India at SPJain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai, India.

The inaguration of the Centre took place on the 19th November 2009 at the institute at 3 pm. The inaguration was attended by Head of Operations Mr. Hans Schoof, from the Delegation of the European Commission in India, Team Leader of the India-EU Study Centres Programme Mr. Ulrich Podewils and the representatives of the Reutlingen University, Germany apart from the faculty of the Business school.

84th Annual Conference of Association of Indian Universities

Association of Indian Universities (AIU) held its 84th Annual meeting between 12-14 November 2009 at Guru Nank Dev University at Amritsar. The theme of this year's meeting was 'Evaluation Systems'.

Information Session on Erasmus Mundus Programme
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi
 

On Wednesday September 23, Mrs. Smadja launched at the Guru Gobind Singh University a series of information sessions on the Erasmus Mundus Programme. The Erasmus Mundus road-show will continue at various Universities in Delhi, in order to inform the highest number possible of students and scholars on the opportunities offered by this EU flagship programme. The first opening event was kindly hosted and co-organized by the Guru Gobind Singh University, that also hosts the Erasmus Mundus Alumni Association. Both Mrs. Smadja and Vice-chancellor Dr. Dilip K. Bandyopadhyay agreed on and re-stated the importance of intercultural academic exchanges between Europe and India and of the modernization agenda of Higher education institutions.
